Why should I share my story?
There are so many misconceptions about natural birth, and we are further hampered by a culture of fear and a very high level of medical intervention. By sharing your story you are contributing to what we know about natural childbirth in South Africa, as experienced by the moms and dads.
What is a Natural Birth?
A natural birth is a vaginal birth. While most of us who strive to have a natural birth want a vaginal birth with no medical intervention, things don't always work out that way! We would love to hear about your successes and your disappointments, and what you would do differently next time.
Who can share their story?
You! If you intended to have, or did have a natural birth in South Africa, we would love to hear your story. OR if you are a midwife, doctor or a doula who attended a birth and feels inspired to write about it (with the permission of the parents) we would also love to hear from you!
What do i say?
Each story and each birth is unique, so it can be just pictures, 10 words or 2000 words - up to you!
Things you can think about sharing are:
What was your pregnancy like?
Did you have any complications in your pregnancy?
Who were your caregivers and how was your relationship with them?
Did you do an antenatal course?
How did your labour start and progress?
What methods did you use to cope with pain in labour?
What happened after the birth?
What effect has your birth experience had on your life?
Most importantly: What would you do differently next time?
